Ericsson starts planning for 4G technology

[Faster speeds and better picture quality with 4G technology coming sometime around 2011.]

'Ericsson, the world's biggest supplier of telecoms infrastructure, revealed on Monday it had started planning for a fourth generation of mobile phone systems, that will represent another big leap in internet connection speeds and picture quality.

"Hakan Eriksson, head of research at Ericsson, said 4G could bring connection speeds up to 50 times faster than third generation networks the first of which will be operational next year and three dimensional visual experiences for the first time.

"The information comes at a time when telecoms operators are still facing huge bills for the cost of buying 3G licences and before the business case for their massive investments has been proven.
