Service to be based on i-Mode over GPRS.] Tokyo -- "NTT DoCoMo Inc. plans to begin international roaming service for its i-mode Internet connection service for mobile phones, in Europe and the United States in the fall of 2001."AT&T Wireless Group of the United States and the KPN Group of the Netherlands, which are in an alliance with NTT DoCoMo, will provide their users with the i-mode service based on "GPRS," Europe's packet-switching system. "Also, NTT DoCoMo will start an "enhanced version of i-mode" using high-speed data communications together with the introduction of IMT-2000, the next-generation mobile communications service scheduled for May 2001 in Japan. "AT&T Wireless and KPN also will adopt the "DS-CDMA" for IMT 2000 (as will NTT DoCoMo), and they will launch the enhanced version of i-mode simultaneously in 2002.
