Germany set to allow 3G co-operation
Posted: 04-Jun-2001 [Source: Financial Times]

[Recent decision allows for limited network sharing.]

by Bertrand Benoit, Frankfurt -- "The German telecommunications regulator is on Tuesday expected to give the go-ahead for limited co-operation between mobile operators in building and using third-generation networks in a move that could save the sector billions of euros.

"Yet, analysts and industry participants do not expect such a decision to go as far as rewriting the terms of the German 3G licences auctioned last August because this would risk lawsuits from the largest licence-holders and a clash with other European regulators.

"Since it will all be about interpreting the law, it could take a few days before the operators agree on what it means for them," said one industry participant.
