Korea may pay $300 million a year in Qualcomm royalties

by Zang Sung-jin -- "Korea's telecom companies may pay more than $300 million a year in royalties to U.S.-based wireless technology firm Qualcomm Inc., for code division multiple access, or CDMA, technology, a report said yesterday. "The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) said Korean telecom manufacturers are expected to pay a total of $368 million this year and $328 million in 2002 to Qualcomm in technology royalties.

"ETRI made the projection based on the current royalty rates (5.25 percent for the domestic market and 5.75 percent for export purposes).
