Korea Harex InfoTech Unveils Mobile Payment System by Infrared Data Transfer

by Atsushi Mochizuki, Tokyo -- "Korea Harex InfoTech Inc. demonstrated a mobile payment system called "ZOOP" with a mobile phone using infrared data communications, at the IrDA Pavilion, as part of the World PC Expo 2001, which ended Sept. 22.

"The ZOOP system uses a transmitter-receiver unit, compliant with the infrared data communications standard specified by the Infrared Data Association (IrDA), for communications between a mobile phone with Internet-access capability and a credit-card reader, a cash register in a toll booth for an expressway, an automatic ticket gate, or a PC. The transmitter-receiver unit is externally attached to or internally embedded in such equipment.
