Posted: 27-Jan-2002 [Source: AsiaBizTech]

[Japanese research institute, Glocom, releases a forecast of four possible scenarios for the mobile communication market in 2010.]

Tokyo -- "Accenture Corp. and the Center for Global Communications released on Jan. 23, 2002 a market forecast entitled "four scenarios for the Japanese mobile communication market in 2010."

"Glocom is a research institute affiliated with the International University of Japan.

"The forecast says the market scale of basic fees coupled with voice/data communication usage fees of mobile devices will grow from 6 trillion yen in 2001 to be about 10 trillion yen in 2010 in the most optimistic scenario, or will decline to about 2 trillion yen in the most pessimistic scenario. (134.08 yen = US$1)

"In the most pessimistic scenario, the forecast makes harsh predictions that the fee-based wireless communications market will collapse because of the penetration of free wireless communications by grass-root ISPs run by local authorities and volunteers.
