[All three Korean license holders report 3G services to be launched in 2003 as scheduled.]

by Kim Ki-hong -- "Amid mounting arguments that the proposed next-generation telecommunications service will have to be delayed, SK IMT and KTICOM, the nation's two service providers of IMT-2000, announced that preparations are progressing nicely and the two firms are ready to launch the service in 2003 as scheduled.

"SK IMT, one of the Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) IMT-2000 service carriers, announced that it will launch test operations in the second quarter of 2003 and kick off the commercial service in 32 major cities in the country within the third quarter of the same year.

"KTICOM, the other W-CDMA carrier, said that its earlier schedule to launch the commercial service in 2003 has not been changed, adding that the KT Corp. subsidiary will unveil a detailed service schedule to its major shareholders in early March.
