Posted: 27-Feb-2002 [Source: vnunet.com]

[The British BT spinoff carrier, mmO2, was the first in Europe to turn on its 3G infrastructure in December but now decides to hold off on further investment.]

By Nick Farrell -- "BT Mobile spin-off mm02 has slammed the brakes on the development of third-generation (3G) services.

"The company is refusing to spend more than GBP700m from its original network upgrade fund of GBP3.3bn which was earmarked for the project, until it becomes clear when 3G will be commercially sustainable.

"A company source said that mm02 was likely to hold off 3G investment until March 2003 when it will review its expenditure.
