"MIAKO Net Project announced that it started a wireless Internet connection test based on IPv6, in cooperation with the wireless equipment maker Root Inc. in Kyoto Prefecture."MIAKO Net Project is a group formed by a non-profit organization called "Sustainable Community Center Japan" (SCCJ), along with industry-university cooperative bodies and individuals.
"This field test is to continue through the end of March. Already, the group has built about 70 base stations, mostly in Kyoto City. The number of base stations is expected to finally reach 100 or more, which will make the experiment the largest-scale implementation of IPv6 in Japan.
"The group MIAKO Net Project -- MIAKO stands for mobile Internet access in Kyoto -- was established with the initiative of SCCJ. Its members include Kyoto University, the Advanced Software Technology and Mechatronics Research Institute of Kyoto (ASTEM), Mitsubishi Materials Corp., and other organizations and individuals.
