KPN to nearly double E-Plus market share

by Ian Bickerton, The Hague -- "E-Plus, KPN's German mobile arm, intends nearly to double its market share and will play "a pivotal role" in the consolidation of Germany's mobile networks, according to the Dutch telecommunication company's chairman.

"Ad Scheepbouwer said E-Plus was capable of increasing its market share to as much as 25 per cent from its current 13-14 per cent. He also hinted that it would make acquisitions to cement its position as the third mobile operator in Germany behind T-Mobile and Vodafone.

"We can play a pivotal role in consolidation in Germany," Mr Scheepbouwer said, predicting that half of the country's six 3G mobile licence operators would "leave the field."
