Montreal -- For the first time ever, thousands of Canadian
youth are casting their votes wirelessly to select their favourite artists for the annual MuchMusic Video Awards (MMVAs). Airborne Entertainment is fueling the mobile polling frenzy by creating technology and infrastructure
that enables those-on-the-go to vote in the MMVA People's Choice category anywhere, anytime, with the touch of a single button on their cell phones.
In the first week of voting, thousands of unique users visited the MMVA 2002 section of the MuchMobile channel, and used their cell phones to choose their Favourite Canadian Artist. With a different vote scheduled each week, upcoming People's Choice categories include Favourite Canadian Group, Favourite International Artist and Favourite International Group.
"The early success of the MuchMobile MMVA 2002 voting channel has wildly surpassed our expectations," said Airborne Entertainment's President Andy Nulman. "It clearly demonstrates that young people are using mobile phones
not only to communicate with friends and play games, but also to participate, interact and make their opinions count in a meaningful way."
Based on what we've seen, maybe wireless voting is what's needed to get huge numbers of Canadians buzzed to vote in the next national election!"
"We're thrilled with the fan buzz on MuchMobile," added MuchMusic Vice-President and General Manager David Kines. "The success and fit of the
Airborne partnership is a terrific example of our continuing commitment to keeping the Much audience connected with the latest developments in music, technology and pop culture."
Airborne Entertainment is the exclusive mobile channel manager for MuchMusic's MuchMobile wireless programming, available to mobile subscribers of BellMobility, Telus, Rogers AT&T, Fido, MTS, Aliant and Sasktel. Mobile phone
users across the country enjoy unlimited access to the MuchMobile channel, including free interactive games, listings, feature artist info, news, and now, the ability to vote for the MMVAs. Results will be broadcast live on June 16, 2002.
