Bouygues Telecom to Launch i-mode Service in France

[Introduction of i-mode in France to begin November 15 marking the sixth market for i-mode service.]

NTT DoCoMo, Inc. said today that Bouygues Telecom S.A. has announced it will introduce , the service developed by DoCoMo, to the French market beginning November 15, 2002. France marks the sixth market for i-mode service, which is already available in Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan and Belgium.

DoCoMo concluded a licensing agreement with Bouygues Telecom in April this year, and has been providing the third largest French telecom company, which has approx. 6 million subscribers, with patents, technologies and marketing know-how necessary to launch i-mode service. DoCoMo has also played a major role in helping Bouygues Telecom establish close ties with content providers and equipment vendors, which is important to building a strong foundation for the service.

DoCoMo sees great growth potential for i-mode in France, which, with a population of approx. 60 million, is a major market for mobile communications in Europe.

Outline of i-mode Service in France

(1) Operator: Bouygues Telecom S.A.

(2) Launch date: November 15, 2002

(3) Area: Bouygues' GPRS network in France

(4) Network: GPRS

(5) Models: n21i (manufactured by NEC) and TS21i* (manufactured by Toshiba), which are equipped with dual browser to view i-mode-compatible HTML and WML1.X content *TS21i is scheduled to go on sale in the near future

(6) Service details: E-mail (i-mode mail): Capable of sending and receiving e-mail containing up to 1,000 alphanumerics

Content (at the time of launch): Sites (mainly in French with a few available in English) will be offered by over 50 content providers

Content categories: 1) News/Weather, 2) Convenient Information, 3) Travel/Transportation Information, 4) Trip Information, 5) Message Service/Chat, 6) Ringing Melodies/Images, 7) Fortune-telling/Games, 8) Shopping, 9) Banking/Securities

(7) i-mode charges Basic monthly fee: 3 euro

Packet transmission: 0.01 euro per 1 kilobyte based on volume of data transferred (same cost for e-mail transmission)

Content subscription: Both free and paid content will be available

Content charge will be between 0 to 3 euro per month
