T-Mobile presents automotive and telematics services at the IAA in Frankfurt

[T-Mobile presents NaviGate telematics program directing users to destination avoiding traffic jams using Nokia handsets and the T-Mobile MDA (Mobile Digital Assistant) which provides a dynamic road map.]

Following the integration of T-Mobile Traffic GmbH into the T-Mobile International holding, the company is now presenting telematics solutions from a single source for the first time at the 60th IAA (the International Automobile Exhibition) 2003 in Frankfurt, Germany -- from the traffic telematics SIM card to logistics applications.

Orientation aid based on mobile communications: T-Mobile NaviGate is an innovative navigation system which directs users to their destination, avoiding traffic jams. Mobile phones, currently the two Nokia models 7650 and 3650, and the T-Mobile MDA work as mobile "pilots."

Brand new on the MDA: The large display allows the route to be shown not only with directional arrows, but also with a dynamic road map. The map shows not only the route itself, but also the surrounding area and gives tips about interesting points along the way. Another plus point: T-Mobile MDA and NaviGate are already capable of guiding drivers through the Netherlands, France, Austria, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland. The list of countries is set to grow.

T-Mobile NaviGate BlueKit is the wireless version for Bluetooth-compatible mobile phones. Navigation is currently possible with two Nokia models. Other mobile phones from other manufacturers will follow. With the forthcoming software version, set to be launched in the fall of this year, the flexible mobile phones will also be able to find their way outside Germany. In order to make the service available to as many customers as possible, the portfolio of NaviGate compatible terminals will continuously be expanded.

Automated, in-vehicle systems, which report emergencies, even if the driver is not capable, and therefore shorten the process for the emergency services, have been available in Germany for some time. T-Mobile Traffic now offers the so-called "E-Call" throughout Europe. A multimedia simulation presents the internationalization of the system.

Attractive Mobile Office solutions, the rolling office, tailored terminals for key account customers, tracking services for vehicles -- all these services are on offer at the IAA.
