[Ericsson to integrate RealNetworks applications in current and next generation handsets expanding Internet multimedia content on mobile devices.]

Seattle, WA -- RealNetworks, Inc. announced that Ericsson Mobile Platforms has licensed the media engine powering the award-winning RealOne Player, the Helix(tm) DNA Client, as well as the industry standard RealAudio and RealVideo codecs. Ericsson will optimize RealNetworks' technology for high quality digital media playback on mobile devices using the Ericsson reference design. By integrating these applications in current and next generation wireless devices, manufacturers are able to provide consumers access to the wide array of Internet multimedia content available today.

"As a premier provider of mobile technology platforms solutions for GSM/GPRS, EDGE and UMTS we see the importance of being able to support industry leading multi-media applications like RealAudio and RealVideo", said Sandeep Chennakeshu, President, Ericsson Mobile Platforms. "With the inclusion of RealNetworks' media codecs in our platforms we expand the capability of our platforms to access even more rich multimedia content over wireless networks" he continues.

"We applaud Ericsson Mobile Platforms adoption of the Helix DNA Client and the RealAudio and RealVideo codecs in support of their commitment to develop premium mobile platform solutions capable of providing mobile customers with access to the highest-quality digital media content on the Internet," said Nagesh Pabbisetty, vice president Consumer Products and Support, RealNetworks, Inc. "The Helix DNA Client enables manufacturers with easy access to the most flexible solution for creating compelling audio and video functionality suited to their unique customer and product requirements".

Ericsson Mobile Platforms is one of the first mobile platform providers to integrate support for the Helix DNA Client into their products, to enable premium quality digital media experience for consumers on mobile phones. As the first open multi-format platform for digital playback, the Helix DNA Client provides manufacturers with easy access to the most flexible solution for creating compelling audio and video functionality tailored to their unique customer and product requirements.

Today the Helix DNA Client supports RealAudio, RealVideo, MP3, MPEG-4, AAC, AMR, H.263 and SMIL file formats and is currently available on Windows, Macintosh and Linux, as well as the leading wireless platforms: Linux, OpenWave, Palm and Symbian. Additional porting projects are under development for the Solaris, HP-UX, WinCE, iTRON, VxWorks and PSOS operating systems.

In addition to the leading PC and desktop providers that already support millions of unique registered RealOne Players, the following are a sample of the thousands of companies from around the globe that have licensed the Helix DNA Client source code to bring RealAudio- and RealVideo-enabled products to market.
