[Kyocera announces partnership with Superscape Group to deliver 3D gaming for Kyocera's Koi 1.2 megapixel camera phone over the air using BREW.]
San Diego -- Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Superscape Group plc today announced a partnership to optimize Superscape's Swerve Client software engine for Kyocera's Koi(TM) 1.2 megapixel camera phone. Koi's oversized 262,000-color screen, ample onboard memory, intuitive keypad and QUALCOMM's MSM6100 chip set powered by the ARM(R) 9 processor make it a platform that is ideal for downloading and playing 3D games and multimedia content delivered over the air using QUALCOMM's BREW(R) solution. The collaborative partnership will make Koi one of the first 3D-capable mobile phones in North America when it becomes available this summer.
Superscape's Swerve Client, developed in collaboration with ARM, is a fast and efficient software solution that, when running on the wireless device and driven by application code, generates and manages the interactive 3D scenes on the screen using model description data. Swerve Client abstracts the more complex requirements for building interactive 3D applications, making it both easy and fast for designers and programmers to create content without the need for detailed knowledge of such techniques as 3D rendering. Optimized for ARM processor design, Swerve Client runs as part of the actual operating system of the handset and runs games that can either come pre-installed on a mobile device or can be downloaded over the air using the BREW system or Java(TM).
Koi, Kyocera Wireless' first megapixel camera phone, features a 1.2 megapixel digital camera with four times the resolution of existing VGA camera phones and a unique "swivel" form factor. The phone offers easy one-button operation of the camera and can be used swiveled open or closed. Koi has a built-in flash and 5X digital zoom to expand picture-taking options, MPEG-4 video record and playback, and 16 megabytes of onboard memory for images, photo caller ID entries, multimedia files and downloaded games. Koi also features an exceptionally large 262,000-color external display for easy viewing of the Internet, images, videos and games.
