Posted: 12-Nov-2004 [Source: Mobile Tech News]

[Reuters reports Samsung has plans to introduce a mobile phone based on EV-DO sometime during Q1 2005.]

By Jean Panke -- Samsung VP, Peter Skarzynski, has informed Reuters they will be releasing an EV-DO handset in the US sometime early next year. Both Verizon and Sprint are currently undergoing EV-DO network build-ups. The bet is on Verizon as the carrier to launch one of these handsets.

Skarzynski was taking part in a Samsung display at an event showcasing several new phones expected to make American debuts in the near future. The two EV-DO phones included the i730 and the i640. Other handsets included the p735 to be offered this year by T-Mobile USA and the RL-A760 expected to be made available by Sprint. The n330 gaming phone is also expected to be available Q1 2005.

The i730 features Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, and has a 2.8" QVGA 65K color touch screen, 64MB RAM, an SD slot and a QWERTY keyboard revealed when the screen slides up.
