Montreal and Seoul -- SK Telecom and Wavesat, leading developer of WiMAX chipset, software and development platform announced today an agreement to cooperate in the development of WiBro/OFDMA technology for next generation mobile devices.

As part of this multi-million dollar agreement, Wavesat will work closely with SK Telecom (SKT) to develop WiBro/OFDMA SOC, system tools and a development kit based on the WiBro 802.16e S-OFDMA profile. The new UMobileTM (Ultra-Mobile) family of OFDMA WIMAX product portfolio from Wavesat will allow WiMax Wireless system providers (OEMs/ODMs) worldwide to quickly develop and deploy full mobility WiMAX and WiBro solutions.

"We decided to work with Wavesat to develop our WiBro/OFDMA technology because of their unique understanding and successful track record in OFDM technologies and WiMAX solutions as well as their leading involvement with the WiMAX Forum and IEEE Standards Body," said Dr. JooSik Lee, Vice President of SK Telecom. "This partnership is a continuation of SK Telecom's commitment to provide the most innovative world-class mobile communications technology and we look forward to a long and successful relationship with Wavesat."

"When it comes to mobile service innovation, SK Telecom is the clear leader and an authority in the mobile wireless industry. The resulting Wavesat's WiBro products will accelerate the delivery of WiMAX full mobility infrastructure, in South Korea and worldwide," said Michel Guay, Wavesat President and CEO. "Wavesat is honored to be working with SK Telecom and to share expertise in developing leading-edge WiBro/OFDMA solutions for next generation multimedia mobility networks, leveraging application convergence and low cost single open transport platform."
