Hold the Phone -- T-Mobile Introduces kidConnect
Posted: 13-Jun-2006 [Source: T-Mobile]

[T-Mobile's kidConnect service caps a child's wireless bill at $19.99 a month plus provides unlimited calling between parent and child.]

Bellevue, WA -- T-Mobile USA Inc. now is offering a new service, kidConnect, that empowers parents and kids to stay connected on their own terms. By both controlling total wireless costs and providing certain unlimited features, kidConnect gives parents peace of mind and enables kids to communicate the way they want by using the coolest T-Mobile wireless devices around. Available only from T-Mobile, kidConnect helps assure parents that their child's wireless bill will not exceed $19.99 per month(a).

T-Mobile's kidConnect $19.99 offering provides the following:

* Unlimited calling between parent and child (via unlimited, nationwide mobile-to-mobile calling with other T-Mobile subscribers).

* Unlimited nationwide weekend calling(b).

* 50 nationwide Whenever Minutes per month, the value of which also can be used toward text messages (SMS) and, with a capable handset, instant messages (IM) and picture messages (MMS).

* Ability to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.

For enhanced flexibility, after the 50 nationwide Whenever Minutes allotment (or the corresponding value) is depleted, the account can be replenished (online, by phone or at a T-Mobile retail store) with T-Mobile To Go refill cards; refill minutes do not expire and carry over to subsequent months if not used.

"kidConnect is a great option for parents who want the safety and security of giving their child a wireless phone, but who haven't yet since they're too worried about getting a huge wireless bill," said John Clelland, senior vice president of Marketing, T-Mobile USA. "Kids also will love kidConnect because they will be able to use any cool T-Mobile device to stay connected."

As an additional safeguard, kidConnect has a specially designed (WAP) interface that helps prevent kids from signing up through the handset for particular optional services incurring more than a one-time charge.
