3G Router Enables Video Surveillance
Posted: 01-Jan-2009 [Source: Proxicast]

[Proxicast's LAN-Cell 2 3G cellular router links surveillance systems to high-speed 3G data networks.]

Pittsburgh, PA -- Proxicast’s LAN-Cell 2 3G cellular router is fast becoming the professional choice for secure 3G wireless video communications.

Video surveillance (CCTV) systems are increasingly utilizing IP-based cameras and incorporating the Internet for communications to decrease costs and increase remote monitoring flexibility. Cellular carriers are racing to roll out ever-faster 3G wireless broadband technologies for Internet service. The convergence of these trends is rapidly expanding the number of situations where video security applications can be deployed quickly and economically. What has been missing is a simple way to link video surveillance systems to these new high-speed 3G cellular data networks.

The LAN-Cell 2 3G cellular router combines support for the latest high-speed 3G wireless technologies with state-of-the-art security and IP video-centric bandwidth management features. The LAN-Cell 2 can reduce equipment and communications costs while increasing security and remote site monitoring flexibility. Security professionals can easily place video surveillance cameras and other equipment in locations where wired communications are unavailable or cost-prohibitive.

For both mobile and fixed site video surveillance applications, the LAN-Cell 2 3G router enables customers to watch and control all types of IP video cameras -- including sophisticated pan-tilt-zoom cameras (PTZ) and digital video recorders (DVRs) -- from anywhere in the world. Video feeds and control communications can even be secured over the Internet with military grade encryption. The LAN-Cell 2 is rugged and highly reliable, with many units in continuous operation since 2003.

Proxicast customers currently use the LAN-Cell 3G router for video surveillance and security applications including:

* Construction Site Monitoring * Remote DVR (Digital Video Recorder) Access & Playback * Mobile Video Surveillance Trailers & Vehicles * Remote Traffic Monitoring Cameras * Red Light Runner and License Plate Cameras * Special Event or Crisis Monitoring Video * Remote Uplink Video & Television Broadcasting * Bus & Public Transportation Monitoring * Commuter Train & Mass Transit Monitoring * Railroad Crossing Cameras & Security Devices * Police, Private Security and other Law Enforcement (LEO) Apps * Parking Lot and Retail Theft Deterrence Video * Armored Cars & Trucks * Mobile & Temporary Asset Monitoring * Border Patrol and Checkpoint Monitoring * Backup or Failover for Hardwired Video Monitoring

The LAN-Cell 2 3G router is cellular carrier independent via its 3G modem PC-Card architecture, and can easily be upgraded as newer and faster cellular technologies such as 4G, LTE and WiMAX become available. The LAN-Cell 2 supports all major worldwide cellular (wireless) carriers including Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, Alltel Wireless, AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile, Rogers, Telus, Bell Mobility, Telcel, Orange, Vodafone, O2, Telstra and others.

The LAN-Cell 2 supports all of the latest high-speed 3G cellular standards which provide the bandwidth necessary for fast frame rate and high resolution. EV-DO Rev. A networks offer peak speeds of 3.1 Mbps down-stream and 1.8 Mbps up-stream. HSDPA / HSUPA networks currently offer a maximum of 7.2 Mbps down / 2 Mbps up. Real world performance depends on a number of factors, but the LAN-Cell 2 automatically maximizes the available bandwidth and transmits as fast as the cellular connection will allow.

Customers can save money by using the LAN-Cell’s Ethernet switch, integrated 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi access point and router features to share a single Internet connection for all of their remote cameras and security devices. The LAN-Cell 2’s port redirection and end-to-end VPN capabilities allows multiple cameras at each site to be accessed without changing the cameras’ default communications settings or worrying about carrier port restrictions.

The LAN-Cell 2 3G router has several features to help control costs including Proxicast’s exclusive Cell-Sentry "watchdog" system that monitors 3G cellular usage and bandwidth management features to throttle video stream rates to help eliminate cellular data plan "overage" charges.

The LAN-Cell 2 is also well suited for mobile video surveillance trailers and vehicles. The LAN-Cell 2’s small size and rugged steel chassis makes it easy to integrate into existing security enclosures and cabinets. The LAN-Cell 2 runs on 12 VDC and has a very low current draw. It can even be operated from a solar power source.

Fundamental Features Of The LAN-Cell 2:

The LAN-Cell 2 is a rugged commercial-grade 3G cellular router with enterprise-class routing, security and VPN features that allows multiple PC’s, laptops, webcams, controllers, PLCs, ATMs, VoIP phones and other Ethernet-based devices to simultaneously share a single cellular data account for primary or backup connectivity. Every LAN-Cell 2 includes 4 LAN, 1 WAN and 1 Serial ports along with an integrated 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi access point, full VPN end-point capabilities, military-grade encryption ( 3DES / AES ) and X.509 PKI certificate support.

Other LAN-Cell 3G mobile router applications include:

* Remote Monitoring, Telemetry, SCADA & AMR * Remote Control of PLCs and Industrial Controls * Vending, Point-of-Sale (POS) & ATM Machines * Backup for Wired Internet and Alarm Connections * Sales & Service Fleets * Commercial Transportation * Cars, Buses, Limos & RVs * Delivery & Courier Vehicles * Boats & Marine Vessels * Mobile & Stationary WiFi Hotspots * Police, Fire & Emergency Vehicles * Military & Defense Applications * Digital Signage, Electronic Billboards & Signs * Homeland Security & Disaster Recovery
