Redwood City, CA -- EJL Wireless Research announces its first quarter 2009 China mobile handset production and shipment analysis report. Production of GSM+CDMA handsets in China dropped back to Q1 2007 levels at 102.3 million units. Shipments of GSM+CDMA mobile handsets into China for the first quarter increased by 9.2% when compared to the fourth quarter of 2008.
The China mobile handset analysis reports are issued on a quarterly basis and provide a unique perspective on the production and sales of GSM and CDMA mobile handsets within the Chinese market. Mobile handset vendors analyzed include: Haier, HiSense, Huawei, Konka, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and ZTE.
"Nokia continued to dominate the GSM and overall handset market in China while struggling Motorola remained a distant third with 6.3% share. Within the CDMA market, Samsung regained the top position from Motorola as demand strengthened due to the introduction of EVDO Rev. A technology into China Telecom's network," says founder and President, Earl Lum.
"Domestic Chinese handset suppliers captured only 16.7% of GSM shipments and a healthy 31% of CDMA shipments in the first quarter," says Lum.
