Today MetroPCS Communications, Inc. in partnership with SA Studios Global, introduced the Huawei M835 Sanctioned by tokidoki, a special-edition Android handset designed by Los Angeles-based cult apparel and accessory brand tokidoki. The stylish new device will be available at MetroPCS retail locations and online at www.metropcs.com in the coming weeks.
The Huawei M835 Sanctioned by tokidoki includes two interchangeable battery covers and is pre-loaded with a full content suite including a brand new tokidoki application, static and live wallpapers featuring tokidoki's recognizable pop iconography, four original tokidoki ringtones and more. The casing of the handset has been redesigned to white with metallic cyan blue accents. The slick white coupled with the bold tokidoki iconography that adorns the inter-changeable backs offers both the MetroPCS and tokidoki communities the chance to collect a piece of mobile art.
The fashionable device is available with MetroPCS' smartphone service plans beginning at $50 and $60 per month including all taxes and regulatory fees. Both plans offer unlimited talk, text and Web services and, with Metro USA(SM) nationwide coverage, customers can be confident they can use their service in areas throughout the United States covering more than 90 percent of the U.S. population.
"We're extremely excited to introduce another great special edition handset in partnership with SA Studios and Huawei that will appeal to our customers and give them the opportunity to showcase a phone that matches their lifestyle and budget," said Phil Terry, senior vice president of corporate marketing for MetroPCS. "By collaborating with SA Studios and Huawei we are able to pair Android handsets with great features and affordable service plans with no annual contract, allowing our customers to have it all at an incredible value."
Fan Photo Contest and Launch Events
tokidoki was founded in 2003 by designer Simone Legno and his partners Pooneh Mohajer and Ivan Arnold. tokidoki has built a worldwide following with its larger-than-life characters and designs. The brand's cult status has fueled high-profile collaborations with brands including Sephora, Karl Lagerfeld, Levis, LeSportsac, Marvel, New Era, Hello Kitty, Levi's, Xbox and Skullcandy.
"Our mobile phone is the most important accessory we have and it's an extension of our personalities," said tokidoki designer and co-founder Simone Legno. "We use it to maintain our social, business and personal relationships that we can't live without. It was a unique challenge to design 'the ultimate accessory' but we are excited about offering our fans such a customized Android device, with such a great wireless service provider."
The pre-loaded application, tokidoki SNAP!, is a one-of-a-kind social photo-sharing application that allows fans to embellish and customize their photos with tokidoki graphics then share with their friends via their social media channels. To promote the new device and the iconoclastic pairing of the brands, a SNAP! photo contest will launch in early November where photos taken with SNAP! will be submitted to a contest microsite. The image that receives the most Facebook "Likes" will win prizes from both brands in addition to being featured on the SNAP! microsite.
To celebrate the partnership, MetroPCS and tokidoki will introduce the phone at New York Comic-Con, the largest POP culture event on the East Coast, where close to 100,000 attendees will have the chance to see the phone over the course of four days. Ten lucky winners who submitted tokidoki-inspired Android designs will have their art featured in the MetroPCS New York Comic-Con booth.
tokidoki will host a launch party for the phone at its Melrose store in Los Angeles on November 3rd, hosted by Glee's Brenda Song, with the evening's proceeds benefiting 1LOVE.ORG, which contributes to children's education and environmental and peace-keeping efforts around the world.
